Obituary for Marcel Laferrière

He was braver than he thought, stronger than he seemed and loved more than he knew.

Marcel Laferrière 1962-2019

It is with profoundly heavy hearts and incredible sorrow that we share that Marcel Laferrière passed away on April 6, 2019 at the West Nipissing General Hospital after a 10 year courageous and strong battle with cancer.

Marcel was the son of the late Alice Bouffard (née Daoust) and the late Réal Laferrière, as well as the late Lionel Bouffard.

Marcel will be forever remembered by his loving wife of 32 years, Diane (née Mekers). He was extremely proud of his children and their partners, Sara (Mathieu Gaudette) of Sturgeon Falls, Jacqueline (Ryan Oakley) of Toronto and Alexandre (Mélanie) of Sturgeon Falls and his two grandchildren, Grace and Nolan, who were the apple of his eye.

Marcel is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Gabrielle Lamothe of Sturgeon Falls, Denis (Nicole), Joanne (Denis Coulombe) of Verner and André (Michèle) of Azilda.

Marcel’s legacy will be honored by his extended family of Rita (née Willemsen) (the late William) Mekers and his sisters and brothers-in-law, Fred (Melissa) Mekers of Sudbury, Ron (Leslie) Mekers of Truro, Nova Scotia, Richard (Louise) Mekers of Sturgeon Falls and Anita (John Gray) of London.

He will be lovingly remembered by his nephews and nieces who held a special place in his heart.

Marcel was predeceased by his sisters, Lorraine Mayer and Diane Laferrière.

The family extends sincere thanks to all the medical staff that helped them through this journey, especially the exceptional nursing staff at West Nipissing General Hospital, the North East Cancer Centre, and the VON. They would also like to thank Dr. Behamdouni, Dr. Desjardins, Dr. Cano and Dr. Carlson.

A celebration of Marcel’s life will be held Saturday, April 13, 2019 at Notre Dame de la Visitation Church in Lavigne at
11:00 am. Family will receive family and friends an hour before the service.
