Serré, Gaetan (1938-2017) (MP, Liberal, 1968-1972)
The family announces with sorrow his death in Sturgeon Falls, Friday November 24, 2017 at the age of 79 years. Son of the late Ferdinand Serré and of the late Jeanne Serré (née Aubin). Beloved husband of Jeannine Serré (née Ethier) of Sturgeon Falls. Dear father of Marc (Lynn Loiselle) of Val Caron and Lynne Gervais (Robert) of Sturgeon Falls. Predeceased by his son Luc Serré. Sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Michel, Catherine, Melodie, Mireille and Marissa. Brother of Pauline Major (Ronald), Gérard (Betty) and Marcel all of Sturgeon Falls, Adrienne, Liliane Larocque (Alain) of Verner, Bernard (Leticia) of Warren, Lucien and Florence of Ottawa, Benoit and Eugene (Patricia) of Markstay and Daniel (Sylvie) of River Valley. Predeceased by his siblings Ubald, André, Claude and Thérèse. He will also be missed by the Ethier family to whom he was very close. He also leaves over 70 nephews and nieces. A teacher, College director, great communicator and dedicated educator, Gaetan was an active member of his community having served on many church, social, government and political committees. His entire life was devoted in helping the less fortunate in our society and he was a great advocate for social justice. Gaetan and Jeannine celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary on September 3rd 2017. Among Gaetan’s many honours and recognitions, he was very proud of being awarded the Queen’s Jubilee Commemorative Medal and, recently, a Certificate of Lifetime Achievement of Excellence from Huntington University. Family will be receiving friends at the Théorêt Bourgeois Funeral Home, Sturgeon Falls, Sunday November 26th 2017 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, November 27th 2017 at 11 a.m. at Notre-Dame-des-Victoires Church, Field. The family has requested donations to Family Counsel at Au Château, the West Nipissing Food Bank, Mass offerings or donations to any charitable organization of your choice.
